Where do you keep your doodling, creating, & sketching

I find myself making notes, drawing sketches, layouts and page titles all over the place. Scraps of paper I find around the house, the margins of agendas from meetings, on my church bulletin (sorry Tammi!). Then when I need my 'notes', I never have them handy. So, I decided to make my own Sketchbook. I had only used chipboard one other time and it was several years ago. For some reason naked chipboard has always intimidated me. Weird, I know. I had the perfect paper, which I had been hoarding. I know some of you out there are in the secret hoarding society too. {grin}

Some of my friends & family thought I was had fallen off the deep end when I showed this to them. They know I am OCD about organization, but thought I had taked it a little too far. I think not! I have used my sketchbook and totally {heart} it! A few weeks ago I even added some little tabbed dividers with these categories: page layouts, card designs, page titles and page ideas.

Here is my creation in various stages of completion.

Long time, no post!

Whoa!! I have been MIA for a very, very long time! Life has been busy. I have many pictures to post so I am going to try to commit to getting something on here once a week. Here is what I have for today.

First, check out http://www.mountaineerstamper.blogspot.com/. Tess is doing some blog candy. She is so creative and does awesome work! I hope you check her out.

Second, this is a card I made for Veteran's Day back in November. We celebrate Veteran's Day with a special program and a dinner after church. Every Veteran in my church received a personalized card. I am so appreciative that my mom and our friend Virginia helped assemble the cards.

I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend! I have had great Saturday {a little Zumba, a little Nertz - a card game my family LOVES, some scrapbooking and visiting with my sister and her boyfriend}. Let's hope we don't get the snow that is predicted, I could use more sunshine, even if is cold!

You Rock!

Can you believe November is half over and Thanksgiving is almost here??? I sure can't! Chilly weather has settled in here in Kentucky along the Ohio River. Eventhough the craziness associated with the holidays is just around the corner, this is usually the the time of yeart when I can spend more time in my craft studio. Soooooo, hopefully, I will be getting some projects completed that I can share with all of you.

Ok, on to today's card. This is s birthday card I made for my BFF's (Amy) daughter's birthday. I used SU!'s Just Jawing. I love it and will make more for my daughter's friends.

Recipe: SU! basic black and only orange paper, DCWV aqua sparkle paper, SU! chunky silver glitter, miscellaneous ribbon, white gel pen, StazOn ink.

Well high school football is over here in the Sammons' household. My husband team made the playoffs and had there first round game last night. Didn't do so hot....they lost. It has been a rough season. Now we can finish up lots of little chores that get ignored starting in June. I have a really cool Pottery Barn shelf system that I can't wait to get hung, along with a Making Memories shelf. Can't wait! Hopefully we will get it done tomorrow.

Here is a card I made awhile back. I used a oldie but goodie retired SU set, Fall Whimsy, for the pumpkin and ghourd. The 'with gratitude is PTI. The CB is SU Gree Galore. I used Versamark to create the background. The stripe and polka dot paper is American Crafts that I found @ Big Lots in one of my treasure hunts. I am not sure what kind of paper the pumpki and ghourd are stamped on. The scalloped square is SU Very Vanilla. I paper-pierced the scalloped square. I finished the card of with a little SU twine.

Good afternoon all! Things have been busy around our house. My husband's football team just finished their last regular season game. The first round in the state play-offs start Friday night...wish them luck!

Other doings that have gone on in the past few weeks: DS finished soccer and we had his 5th birthday ~14 boys between the ages of 3 and 6...yes, I am officially CRAZY! I know why I am not an elementary school teacher! My DD finished volleyball and started basketball practice the next day. The school also had the fall sports banquet and Meet the Team for all of the Winter Sports is Wednesday. Woo!

I also have to toot my horn a little and mention that my employer, Southern Ohio Medical Center, received just a *little* safety award from OSHA. We are the 8th healthcare facility in the nation to receive OSHA's Voluntary Protection Program Star designation. This means that we have exceptional safety practices. Near and dear to my {heart}. I will post the link to the newspaper article and the announcement on our website just as soon as they are available.

Ok, on to the card. I made this awhile back and never got around to posting it. Nothing fancy, I just like the stamp and the saying on the inside "coffee and friends, the perfect blend". The CB is SU Chocolate Chip, coffee beans background in SU Chocolate Chip, SU Very Vanilla and Creamy Caramel. The polka dot on the CC is some kind of retired SU background stamp. I don't recall the name. I colored in SU markers and outline in my one of four Copics (I think I want more). The ribbon is Memory Makers, got it for a song @ Big Lots. I used my Creative Memories cutting system to cut the ovals that I layered. I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY want a set of the regular and scalloped Nestabilities...circles, ovals, squares. Did I tell you I REALLY want a set or two of Nesties??

Ok, off to take clothes out of the dryer (boo!) and lasagna out of the oven.

Just a Shade Late

I don't know about you all, but I have a ton of scraps laying around. A serious ton! I hate it so I decided to try to make some cards using some of my scraps up. Here is what I came up with . I really {heart} this ribbon. It is kind of hard to tell but it is shimmery [is this a word???] and sparkly. I would take it in every color if I could get it. I have no idea what company or where I got it. I have had it for awhile and like looking at it. Thought I should use it though. Any way, this is an older SU stamp set. But I thought is was cute. Best yet, I needed to send a belated birthday card so I did actually send it, rather than hording it *smile*.

Coffee & Friends

This is one of my favorites cards. It is not complicated or fancy. Best thing is, I made it all from scraps! I really just got into using stamps that needs coloring. I know, I am way behind the stamping times. But I had not done much stamping for a couple years because I was working on my Master's. Now that I have that finished, I have alot more play time!

Anyway, while I was coloring this image, I decided it is high time that I start learning how to do some shading. So, stay tuned to see how I do!

Treasure Hunt

On a recent shopping excursion I had some neat finds. Here are some of the treasures...

These items are from Odd Lots...CAN YOU BELIEVE IT!!! They do have some awesome finds from time-to-time.

Anywho, this is a courdaroy scrapbook album that I thought my DD would like. If she doesn't then I will use for the pages I make and one will one day give her *smile*.

I also found these cool chipboard letters AND this notebook. Jami Sibley, aka http://jami.blogs.splitcoaststampers.com/, had some cute projects with these that I wanted to try. (I am pretty sure it was Jami, if not sorry for not getting this right :()

I don't have many flowers embellies. I saw these at a LSS and thought they would look pretty on my Hawaii pages....WHICH I haven't even started on. Kind of hard when the pictures aren't event printed, uh!?!?! It is on my every growing list...*sigh*

I found this acrylic 'x' box at Office Max. We use these @ work and thought it would be a great way to put my markers in easy reach.

More clear jars for riboon from Making Memories.

I was really pumped when I found these black leather looking cardboard magazine holders on clearance @ Office Max. I a bunch of them...3 in a package for $1.50. YAHOOOO....WHAT A STEAL! Fits right into the colr scheme of my studio too!

I am off to try to make a few projects that I hope to share soon! I better starting using some of this stuff I keep buying!

For a Special Friend

I made this card for a special friend. Well, she is really my mother's friend and I am good friends with her daughter and son. The "mom's" met at church when we were all toddlers and the rest is history. We would swim together in the summer, sled in the winter and created alot of traditions. Now that we kids are *cough* adults, we still get together, just not as often.

We live about 3 hours from one another, not so far away, but just far enough that with our own hectic lives it is hard to see each other on a whim.

Anyway, my mom's friend kindly let me and my family stay overnight with her so my husband and I could go to my 20 year class reunion...yes, 20 years. I can't believe it. This might have to be another post. Back to the card, she had a nice dinner ready for us when we arrived and even kept my two kids while we enjoyed the evening. It is kind of funny because her son was in my class, but he didn't even come.....everyone got a kick out of the story.

We had a great weekend, it was also my birthday, remembering great times!

Anyway, so I have been drooling over stamping bellas and one Friday night I was at Vickie's, http://www.stampingeverafter.blogspot.com/, and some of the ladies had some new and let me play with them. The drooling turned into downright slobbering!!! LOL!!

I got online that night and put in an order. I have been dying to stamp and my studio has been a disaster, but the other night I cleared enough space so I could work.

Here is my inspiration (a whole other story about this sweater for another day) and the card I made with my new "iPodabella".

I am giving this to a friend at work that gave me her old iPod Shuffle for my 4 year old son. It was a life saver in the car on the way to and back from Florida. He thought he was big like his older sister and her friend. He listed to his Kid Rock and Veggie Tales song and we got to hear him sing. Great fun!

My Studio Makeover - More Organizing

Ok, so my goal after returning from vacation was to post once a week. Well, when I re-entered the 'real world' of work, laundry, taxi driver, cook...you get the picture...I haven't met my goal. Better late than never right??? I am only 13 days late with post....oh well, I least I am finally it to you. BTW, who are all of you that check out my blog??? Alright, here we go with my post.

I spent a rainy Saturday back in May organizing my stamps. I finally got up enough courage (yes, I know...so sad that I have been 'afraid' to do this.) to 'bust up' all of my SU stamp sets. I have had multiple moments of anxiety attacks over this. Non-stampers or non-type a's look at me like I am a loon when I say this, but I know some of you out there know exactly what I am talking about. Ok, so I got myself 'pumped up', got started and called my BFF Amy to tell her that I took the leap. She couldn't belive it...she screamed "WHAT!!!" "OMG"!!!

This picture to the right is the cabinet that I stored all of stamp sets in....now just a memory *GRIN*!!

I have to admit that I didn't totally lose my 'type-a-ism'. I came up with a process of sorts that will let me put the sets back together if I change my mind down the road. I basically copied the set and wrote the name of the set on the copy. I will put these in a file for safe keeping. My stomach just rolled as I was doing this and I felt so sick, sick, sick...and I don't think there is a cure! Let me know if you know of one! Ha!

Anywho, this picture is the *cough* beginning of the process. I All of the stamp sets piled on my desk. This isn't all of them, I did this in bunches. I carefully took each set apart and put it on the copier and the 'copy' button punched to create a pretty picture of the set. *SMILE*

Then, I lugged all the stamp sets back up to my studio...sigh...I sure got my workout in going up and down and up and down the stairs!!

After I finished all of the copying I just dove right in and started separating the sets into categories. I used obvious ones like alphabet, flowers, animals, etc. About half-way through I called my mom in for some help. I hit a wall and just couldn't decide on some of the categories. PLUS, I couldn't believe I was actually doing this!!!

The biggest problem I had/have is that the magority of my sets haven't been cut...gasp! Yes, this means they are ink virgins....double gasp!!!

Next on "My Studio".... Brush + paint + walls=painted walls!!

My Studio Makeover...Before

I have been absent for far too long. Absent from blogging (sorry!), from stamping, and from scrapbooking. What I haven't been absent from is spending time outside, in the pool, on the beach (ahhh...vacation) and time with my family.

But...I have found some time to work in "My Studio". Not the fun kind of work like creating mind you, but the cleaning, pitching and organizing kind of work.

I have wanted to make "My Studio" really nice like the ones of seen on some of the blogs I visit and on www.twopeasinabucket.com. So I thought I would share the before pictures...gasp! Yes, my room is cluttered and messy.

Here is a secret for you...this is a actually not the real, real before. I can't find those on my computer. I know, sounds like I have some 'work' to do organizing my e-pictures, uh??? Ouch!
On a scale of 1-5, 1 being before and 5 after/complete, this is a 2. LOL!

Sorry I have been gone so long. Wow! We have had 3 very busy weeks here at the Sammons' house. Softball tourneys, Scholastic Banquet, late night work meetings, blah, blah, blah. This weekend was more of the same. I ran across some cool goodies at our local BL store. I found this awesome football scrapbook. It is a odd size and has an old look to it. It was only $2!!! Can you believe it??? My DH has been a football coach for the past 20 years or so. I am thinking that it would be really cool to do a book on his coaching history up through where he is now. If you have any neat ideas on how I can use this book, drop me post.

Ok, back to the rest of my Saturday. I finally dropped off a load of the kids clothes at a new consignment store. I made it home just in time for the rain to start, so I didn't get anything done outside. I did skip out on a big dinner for a school fundraiser Saturday night (guilt, guilt, guilt). But, my DH went. He was really looking forward to the chicken and rib dinner catered by The Scioto Ribber. Lots of famous folk stop by when they are in Portmouth. Me, on the other hand, just needed to stay home.

I planned on getting the laundry started...yep really behind...but, my BFF Amy stopped be and well...the thought was good. We ended up making cards! Yipee!! I was really excited since I hadn't touched my stash for a couple of weeks.

Anywho, she stayed until after midnight and I was on a roll...I finished up at 4:15am!! I massed produced a party invite for a Pool Party Luau that my DD is having for all of the girls in her class on the 29th. I will get a post up of the invitation and football book in the next day or so.

After church and lunch at my parents, I FINALLY got my flowers in their pots. DH got our two dogs out of the garage and into their new kennel....THANK YOU DH if you stop by and visit.

This week is just as busy...
Monday: haircut tomorrow night and basketball open gym
Tueday: swim lessons for 'the boy', aka Carson
Wednesday: Silpada jewelry party Wednesday (ooh, ahh), open gym again
Thursday: Grey's season finale. More open gym
Work all week-my real job.

Warm Weather + Sunshine = BBQing (WSC46)

I don't know about you, but all of the sunshine and warm weather has me ready to fire up the grill! We hav a pool and have lots of planned and impromtu cookouts at our house. So when I ran across this stamp set as I was digging through the shelves where I keep my stamps, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it. So here it is, in all it's glory with lots of embossing.

You have probably been wondering if I really went to Hawaii right??? Well, I promise I did and here is proof. I FINALLY got my camera to cooperate and get my Hawaii pictures to download.

I went with my VBFF Amy. We have been friends since college and take a 'big girls' trip every year. Yep, you heard right...big girls. No kids, no husbands, no work!!! Our girls are 13 and 11. We try to do a nice trip with just them also, so they couldn't quite understand why they weren't making this one with us.

This is Wakiki Beach, where we spent a couple of days enjoying the sun and cool breeze.

Me on Pauluna Beach. The water here was SO clear it was unbelieveable. We stopped at a little local diner for lunch then headed back out in the convertable in search of the next beach,"Sandy Beach".

We provided comic relief the locals as we learned to snorkel, on our own mind you, here at Haunamu Bay a famous bay known for seeing all kinds of see life. Stayed tuned for the underwater pics we tried to take. Hee! Hee!

Frustrated!!!

I finally had some time this evening to get my pictures downloaded and wouldn't you know it, but my camera is not cooperating. It will not do what it is supposed to do to download the pics. AGHHH!!! I am so FRUSTRATED!!! I was so excited to post some here and get them ordered. Oh well, I guess I will try again tomorrow night.

I do have a card to post that I did for Beate's WSC. I will do that shortly.

Cool Summer Treat (WSC#45)

Aloha everyone! Yes, it is back to reality.

If you read my previous post, you know that I am havingproblems downloading my pictures. So, I had to scan my card and it doesn't really do it justice, if I do say so myself.

We had wonderfully warm breezy weather in Hawaii that made the coffee flavored ice cream tast sooo yummy. It made me think of one of my all time favorite SU stamp sets, which I used for this card. We returned to find the weather downright hot here at home!! It was so hot that it made me think of Summer which made me think of a favorite treat around our house...ice cream sundaes.

The stamp sets I used for this card is are oldies but goodies and two of my favorites. I scalloped the bottom edge of the front of the card with my scalloped scissors and placed a piece of SU very vanilla cardstock on the inside. The cherry is popped up. I did not include a sentiment for flexibility if I need a card on short notice.

Wish me luck tomorrow night and say a prayer that I can get these pictures from my camera to my computer tomorow night!!!

Hi everyone! I will MIA for a few days. I leave for Hawaii in about 2 hours (3:00am). Yes, that means no sleep before heading to the airport. I figure I can sleep on the plane. Anywho, I won't be posting and just wanted to let you all know why. I am missing out on the Friday night fun at Vickie's. I will be back in action next Friday and will at least have some pictures to post.

Emergency! 911 to the Rescue!

My sister stopped by Thursday evening with an emergency. She is hosting a bridal shower for a friend. She really had a neat idea to use a decorated box for guests to put cards in. She printed pictures of the bride-to-be with her groom and modge podged them on the box. She put the wedding invitation on the top of the box. This is when the emergency happened and she didn't know what else to do.

Big sister to the rescue. The bride's colors are pink so we used pink flowers and bling, with black ribbon and brads. Here are a few pictures of the finished box.

Oh yes it Friday night, oh what a nite....well almost

There are 3 great things about Friday. First, it is the end of the work week. Second, Vickie (www.stampingeverafter.blogspot.com) always has some kind of stamping or scrapbooking group meeting and third, Beate's Weekend Sketch Challenge is posted.

Tomorrow night is Friday Nite Scrapbooking. I can't wait to get together with all of Vickie's ladies for good company and creating! My friend Michelle is going with me, woo hoo!! What a great way to start the weekend.

I am also excited to see Beate's Weekend Sketch Challenge. I tried it for the first time last weekend and enjoyed the creative thinking time. Not that the card I made is all that great, but it was fun and different.

I hope you have fun things planned for your Friday night!

New Toys...

I ran out to return a bookshelf at Target this afternoon. I decided to stop by Michael's. I found several goodies. It put me in the mood to organize my scrapbook room, which I am redoing. Of course, I am taking pics along the way and I will share the before and after with everyone as soon as it is finished. In the meantime, here a few of the new toys I bought.

This wall shelf is by Making Memories. I have had my eye on it for a while. There was 1 left at Michael's...I got 50% off and paid $40 for it!! I can't wait to hang it up after I get the walls painted.

Since I used the Marvy Mega and Giga punches @ Vickie Waugh's (http://www.stampingeverafter.blogspot.com/) Card Buffet several weeks ago, I have been dying to get them. So as you can see I did. I have also really wanted the Making Memories plastic containers. Yep, I was bad and bought the large and smalls ones. I need at least 6 more large ones. They come in packs of three's.

So I didn't get these on today's excursion. I picked up all of this American Craft ribbon (I think I have several more packages with my winter/snow scrapbooking things) for $2 bucks each at Big Lots about 6 months ago. Hobby Lobby has them for about $6 or $7...what a deal!!

As I continue organizing (and inevitably shopping, I will post more pictures. Enjoy what is left of the weekend!

Firsts! (Beate's WSC42)

This is a weekend of first. My first WSC (Beate's Weekend Sketch Challenge). My first photo upload. You get the idea. Here is the card that I created for Beate's WSC. It is not fancy, but not too bad for a gal who hasn't done alot of creating lately. I will be sending this card to one of my best girlfriends who just had her 3rd baby (Ryann Elise). We have been friends since we were in diapers! This flowered paper on this card is sort of special because it is one of the primary papers I used to create a 'first year' (yes, another first...I hadn't even done my daughter or son's 'first year' book!)) scrapbook for her 2nd baby (Molly Estele). All she had to do was add pictures.

Enjoy!

Ingrediants: SU Alway Artichoke, Mellow Moss and Barely Banana card stock; Daisy's D patterned paper; SU Hodgepodge Hardware in silver; unknown alpha stamp set; SU Chocolate Chip and Basic Black ink; unkown large and small flower punch; SU Dazzling Diamonds; SU white ribbon.

Recipe: Use SU tool (don't know name) to rough the edges of the mellow moss SC. Rub roughed up edges of Mellow Moss SC in the Chocolate Chip ink. Sponge all CS and patterned paper with Chocolate Chip ink. Cut patterned paper into 2x2 squares. Layer the flowers. Stamp 'baby' on SU Barely Banana paper with glue ink pad and cover with SU Dazzling Diamonds.

I was showing my husband and daughter this new little project (my blog). My daughter thinks it's cool and hip. My husband asked me how much it costs - LOL! They helped me come up with my blog title, which we all got a little laugh out of. Off to my scrapbook room to play!

I figured this out and it wasn't so hard! I couldn't sleep so I thought I would start working on getting this blog set up. I have my profile and the links to my favorite websites and blogs created. Hopefully, I will come up with a title and get some photos and pictures of some of my creations posted soon. Wish me luck!

Make New Friends & Keep the Old

When I was at the Card Buffet, I met several nice ladies (Barb, Tess, Karen, Missy and Vickie). They get together regularly at Vickie's home for the monthly card buffet, hostess club, scrap night and for other special projects.

They are all so nice! They shared projects and cards they had made and talked about their 'blogs'. Well, that had my curiousity up so I just had to check it out. After the card buffet I did some 'googling' and found Vicki's blog, along with Karen and Tess's. For 2 weeks now I have rushed home from work, get my chores done and count down the minutes until I can get online and check out their blogs. Once I start looking I can't stop. I have been glued to my computer or laptop clicking away on all of their links. I can't believe all of the wonderful projects!

All of this blogging made me curious about starting my own. Well, as you can see, I have created my own blog. I don't have a title for it and I am not even sure what I will do with it. I am not nearly as created as these ladies. I can't even remember the last time I came up with my own creation! Stay tuned to see how I do with the blog and my projects.

Back in the Saddle

In 2006 I started graduate school to work on my master's in Safety, Security and Emergency Management at Eastern Kentucky University. So, I really haven't been able to stamp or scrap for a little more than 2 years.

I am set to graduate this May (2 months away--yeah!). As school winds down I am getting my life back little by little.

About 2 weeks ago I went to a Card Buffet hosted by a local SU demonstrator. My mom and a church friend went also. I made 8 cards, signed up for a scrap nighte and a recipe book class. Needless to say, I fell in love all over again with stamping and scrapping.
